2005 Winner - Sean MichaelSean originally worked as an auxiliary psychiatric nurse and care worker for those with special needs. While he studied for an MA at the Royal College of Art he took a part time post as Art Group Coordinator in a hostel for homeless people with registered mental health problems. He then studied a PGCE, since when he has worked on many projects relating to his practice, in schools as a visiting artist, with patients at St Clements Psychiatric Hospital, at the Natural History Museum and at Whitechapel Royal Hospital producing an installation of drawings and collages in a treaatment room. Of his residency Sean says "Working with children at Great Ormond Street Hospital was a wonderful experience for myself, the childen, their parents and the hospital staff. Children were encouraged to explore the theme of A Beautiful Place and to join in with interactive painting and printmaking to produce the work of that name that now hangs there." After the residency, Dr Jane Collins, chief executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children said "The project has been a huge success with staff, patients and their families and we have had a great deal of very positive feedback about the scheme."
